Desk Correspondent , Mumbai - In a major legal victory for the makers of Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan, the Madras High Court has directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue a ‘UA 16+’ certificate for the movie. The ruling comes after the film faced significant hurdles during the certification process, with the regional censor board reportedly raising objections to several scenes and dialogues deemed "overly political" and "potentially provocative." By granting the UA 16+ rating, the court has balanced the filmmaker's right to creative expression with the board's concerns regarding mature content.

The legal battle began when the production house challenged the CBFC's initial refusal to grant a certificate without extensive cuts that the makers claimed would "gut the film's core message." Jana Nayagan, which is widely speculated to mirror Vijay’s real-life political aspirations and his newly formed party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), features hard-hitting commentary on social issues and governance. The High Court, while hearing the plea, observed that films are a medium of expression and as long as they do not incite violence or breach national security, the board should not act as a "super-censor."
The court's decision has sent waves of excitement through Vijay’s massive fan base, as the film is now set for a grand release without the heavy edits originally demanded. Industry experts view this as a landmark case for Tamil cinema, particularly for films dealing with political themes. While the 'UA 16+' certificate means that viewers under 16 should be accompanied by an adult, it ensures the director's vision remains largely intact. With the legal roadblock cleared, Jana Nayagan is expected to dominate the box office, further solidifying Vijay’s position as a dominant force in both cinema and the evolving political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
