Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Actor Kajal Aggarwal has described Ramayana as a technically groundbreaking cinematic spectacle, saying the upcoming mythological epic offers an experience unlike anything Indian cinema has witnessed before. Speaking about her role as Mandodari, the wife of Ravana, Kajal said working on the film has been a unique journey for the cast. She praised the scale of the production and highlighted how the story's deep cultural roots make it especially meaningful for Indian audiences.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Lord Rama, alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Arun Govil as King Dashrath and Yash as Ravana. Backed by Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations, the two-part saga is reportedly among the most expensive film projects ever mounted in India. The ambitious adaptation is expected to redefine the scale of Indian filmmaking, with its makers positioning it alongside some of the world's biggest cinematic franchises.
Producer Namit Malhotra recently said the ancient Indian epic predates many globally celebrated fantasy franchises and is designed to deliver both grand spectacle and emotional depth. He compared the project's scale to The Lord of the Rings and Avatar, while emphasizing that Ramayana remains rooted in its own timeless narrative and cultural significance.
The first installment of Ramayana is slated for release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is scheduled to arrive in theatres on Diwali 2027. Despite debates surrounding its teaser and visual effects, anticipation for the epic remains exceptionally high, making it one of the most talked-about Indian films in development.
