News Desk : The southwest monsoon finally reached Mumbai on Tuesday, bringing widespread rain to the city and several parts of Maharashtra. The arrival of the monsoon came after intense pre-monsoon showers over the past two days, prompting weather warnings across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the southwest monsoon had advanced into Mumbai and several other parts of Maharashtra, along with regions of Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. The weather agency said conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to progress further into Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and other northern states over the coming days. Mumbai remained under an orange alert on Tuesday, with the IMD warning of moderate to heavy rainfall. Nearby districts including Raigad, Pune and Ratnagiri were also placed under orange alerts, while Thane, Palghar and Sindhudurg were issued yellow warnings.
Worli emerged as one of the wettest areas, with Savitribai Phule BMC School recording 61 mm of rain in just one hour. In the western suburbs, Bandra's Pali Chimbai School and Supari Tank BMC School received the highest rainfall of 70 mm each. The revival of the monsoon comes after a brief slowdown last week. Meteorologists said the renewed activity is expected to aid the gradual advance of the rainy season along the west coast and into central India.
With the monsoon now officially arriving in Mumbai, residents can expect more rain in the coming days. Authorities remain on alert as heavy showers continue to impact normal life, while the IMD closely monitors the monsoon's further progress across the country.
