On Tuesday, the residences of Malayalam film stars Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran were raided by the Customs Preventive wing as part of Operation Numkhor. This nationwide operation aims to investigate the illegal import of vehicles from Bhutan into India.
The raids targeted various locations across Kerala, including Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Malappuram. Customs officials are probing the smuggling of decommissioned Bhutanese Army vehicles, such as Land Rovers, Land Cruisers, and Prados, which were allegedly brought into India through fake registrations to evade taxes. These vehicles were reportedly sold at auction in Bhutan and later resold in India at inflated prices.
An official at the Customs Preventive Commissionerate confirmed that the houses of Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran were among those raided, and the documents of their vehicles are currently under examination. The department suspects that more than 100 such vehicles were smuggled into Kerala and purchased by various individuals, including actors and business figures.
As of now, neither Dulquer Salmaan nor Prithviraj Sukumaran have publicly addressed the raids. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify all parties involved in this alleged smuggling network.
