The Delhi government has announced financial aid of Rs 5 crore to assist Punjab, which is currently facing severe flooding in multiple districts. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the city administration is fully committed to supporting the flood-affected areas and ensuring that relief reaches those in need quickly.
Punjab has been grappling with heavy rainfall over the past week, causing rivers to overflow and flooding farmlands, homes, and public infrastructure. Thousands of residents have been displaced, and local authorities are working around the clock to provide food, shelter, and medical aid. The Delhi government’s contribution aims to supplement the efforts of the state government and NGOs on the ground.
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that coordination between Delhi and Punjab officials is crucial during this crisis. She confirmed that additional resources, including emergency teams and medical supplies, are ready to be sent if required. The aid package will focus on providing immediate relief such as clean drinking water, temporary shelters, and support for affected families.
Local officials in Punjab welcomed the support, saying that every contribution helps communities recover faster. With climate-related disasters becoming increasingly common, inter-state cooperation like this is seen as vital for minimizing the impact on vulnerable populations.
Residents and volunteers have also come forward to help with relief work, highlighting the spirit of solidarity during challenging times. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely and have urged people to remain cautious while the situation stabilizes.
