Desk Correspondent , Punjab - Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has landed in the middle of a major controversy after alleged gunshots were fired outside the Karnal residence of his manager, Gurpartap Singh Kang. The incident soon turned political after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann claimed that Diljit was being “pressurised” to join politics.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang reportedly claimed responsibility for the firing incident, though Haryana Police said no formal complaint has been filed yet by the manager or his family and investigations are ongoing. Reacting to the matter, Bhagwant Mann alleged that Diljit was facing pressure from the BJP to join politics and suggested the firing was linked to his refusal. He stated that celebrities are often targeted politically because of their massive popularity.
The controversy comes days after Diljit publicly rejected rumours of entering politics following appeals from civil society members in Punjab. Diljit had also recently made headlines after addressing protesters waving pro-Khalistani flags outside one of his concerts. The singer clarified that he had no issue with flags or banners but warned that harassing fans would not be tolerated.
While the firing incident continues to remain under investigation, Diljit Dosanjh has maintained that his focus remains on entertainment rather than politics. The actor-singer will next be seen in Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali.
