Desk Correspondent , Kolkata - Fresh voting commenced at 7 a.m. on Saturday across 15 polling booths in two Assembly constituencies within West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. The Election Commission of India ordered the repolls following specific allegations of electoral malpractices and intimidation during the initial phase of voting.
According to a senior poll official, the decision was made to ensure a free and fair process after reports emerged of booth jamming and damaged electronic voting machines. Tight security has been deployed at all 15 locations, with central paramilitary forces guarding the premises to prevent further disruptions or violence throughout the day.
Voter turnout remained steady during the early hours as residents queued up under heavy surveillance. Local authorities have confirmed that the polling process will continue until 6 p.m., with results from these specific booths to be integrated into the final constituency tallies.
