Ananya Lohia , Punjab - The Attari Border witnessed a historic moment on Sunday as music maestro A.R. Rahman performed live at the iconic venue for the first time during a special Beating Retreat ceremony. Titled Jai Ho – A Musical Salute to the Bravehearts, the event honoured the Border Security Force (BSF) and India's armed forces while also promoting filmmaker Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga. Thousands gathered at the JCP Stadium near the Attari-Wagah border to witness the unique musical tribute.
The evening began with filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Birla Studios' Ananya Birla, actor Vedang Raina and producer Mohit Choudhary welcoming the audience and expressing gratitude to BSF personnel. The team dedicated the film's music album to the country's armed forces. Describing the event as a celebration of unity and remembrance, the makers highlighted its connection to Main Vaapas Aaunga, a film inspired by stories from the Partition era. Rahman opened the performance with a soulful rendition of Chanda Suraj Lakhon Taare before presenting songs from the upcoming film. Maskara was performed by Nilanjana Ghosh and Vedang Raina, while Ishq Mastana featured Mohit Chauhan, Pooja Tiwari and Nargis. The evening concluded with Rahman's iconic patriotic anthem Maa Tujhe Salaam, creating an emotional and memorable atmosphere at the border.
Speaking on the occasion, Imtiaz Ali called the event a tribute to the nation's spirit and the courage of soldiers guarding the borders. He said the performance celebrated solidarity, love and the sacrifices made by the BSF and the Indian Army. Ali also noted that Main Vaapas Aaunga is rooted in the history of the 1947 Partition, reflecting on the lives, homes and relationships that were torn apart during the period. He said the film ultimately carries a message of love and human connection.
Main Vaapas Aaunga stars Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari and Vedang Raina in key roles. The film features music by A.R. Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil. Produced by Birla Studios, Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films, the film is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
