Desk Correspondent , Amaravati - The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued an urgent weather advisory as the state continues to grapple with a volatile mix of unseasonal rainfall and soaring temperatures during the peak summer season. On Friday, SDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain confirmed that light rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are forecast for the next 48 hours across multiple districts, even as severe heatwave conditions persist in isolated pockets. This erratic weather pattern, driven by southeasterly and southwesterly winds in the lower tropospheric levels, has already disrupted normal life and agricultural activities in several regions, creating a complex challenge for local authorities and residents alike.
According to the official forecast, the lightning and rainfall activity is expected to impact districts including Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR), Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, East and West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, and Tirupati. Despite the precipitation, the mercury remains dangerously high; VR Puram in Polavaram district recorded a maximum temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday, followed closely by Nellore and Kurnool. The SDMA specifically highlighted that "severe heatwave conditions" are imminent for GK Veedhi mandal in the ASR district, while other mandals such as Munchingiputtu and Pedabayalu are also braced for extreme heat. The juxtaposition of moisture and high heat has led to rainfall measurements such as 21.5 mm in Gamparai and 15.2 mm in Mangalagiri, complicating the state's climate outlook for the week.
In response to the heightened risk of lightning strikes, Managing Director Prakhar Jain has advised farmers, laborers, and cattle grazers to exercise extreme caution while working outdoors. The SDMA warned individuals against seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, a common cause of fatalities during such weather events. As the state navigates these dual extremes, the agricultural sector remains particularly vulnerable, with unseasonal rains threatening standing crops while the heatwave poses significant health risks to manual laborers. Local administrations have been put on alert to monitor the situation and provide necessary assistance as the state remains under the influence of these conflicting atmospheric conditions through the weekend.
