Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - A 12-year-old girl was found dead in a pond near her home in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, a day after she was reported missing. Police have launched an investigation into the case following allegations that she was kidnapped and raped.
According to police, the girl left home on Saturday afternoon to buy food but never returned. Her family alleged that four people kidnapped her. After her body was recovered on Sunday morning, angry locals staged protests, blocked roads and railway tracks, and clashed with police, leading to injuries among several personnel.
Police have registered an FIR and begun an investigation into the incident. Senior officers reached the spot to bring the situation under control and assured the victim's family that those responsible would be arrested. The girl's body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
The victim's father said he sought the strictest punishment for the accused after speaking with Suvendu Adhikari, who assured him that the culprits would be brought to justice. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
