Desk Correspondent , Mumbai - Zomato and Blinkit CEO Deepinder Goyal has spoken out to address growing worries about the safety of delivery partners under the company’s "10-minute delivery" promise. Many people, including government officials and safety activists, have raised concerns that fast delivery targets might force riders to drive dangerously on busy roads. However, Goyal clarified that the company does not ask its partners to drive fast or break traffic rules to meet these short deadlines. He explained that the speed comes from better technology and efficient packing at local "dark stores," not from high-speed driving.

The CEO's statement comes at a time when the "gig economy" (temporary workers) is under a lot of scrutiny in India. Critics argue that even if the company does not explicitly tell riders to speed, the pressure of a ticking clock naturally leads to risky behavior. Goyal defended the model by saying that the delivery partners are not even told the expected delivery time for a specific order. According to him, the 10-minute target is achieved because the stores are very close to the customers, and the items are ready to be picked up in under two minutes.

Despite these explanations, many gig worker unions and road safety experts remain skeptical. They point out that in the rush of city traffic, even a small delay can make a 10-minute window impossible without speeding. The government is also looking into stricter regulations to protect delivery workers from physical exhaustion and road accidents. As the debate continues, Zomato maintains that it is using data and smarter logistics to make life easier for both customers and riders, rather than putting anyone at risk for the sake of speed.
