Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi on Sunday assumed charge as the Union Education Minister, a day after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid nationwide student protests over alleged examination irregularities.

Pradhan announced his resignation through a post on X, stating that he had stepped down in view of the situation that had unfolded across the country. The protests, led by the CJP at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, were called off after discussions between the student delegation and Union ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, with both sides reaching an agreement on key demands.

A five-time MP from Karnataka's Dharwad constituency, Joshi has held several important portfolios in the Union government. He previously served as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, and later handled the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy ministries. As Renewable Energy Minister, he oversaw flagship initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM.

With Pralhad Joshi taking charge of the Education Ministry, the Centre is expected to focus on restoring confidence in the education system while addressing students' concerns following the recent protests.
