The Yamuna River in Delhi has swollen to record levels following days of heavy rainfall, leading to flooding in several low-lying areas of the capital. Drone visuals captured the extent of the crisis, showing submerged roads, waterlogged colonies, and disrupted traffic movement across key parts of the city.
Authorities have sounded an alert as the water level continues to rise, forcing the evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas along the riverbanks. Relief camps have been set up to provide temporary shelter, while rescue teams including the NDRF and local administration are working round the clock.
Commuters have been badly hit, with several arterial routes either closed or heavily congested due to waterlogging. The rising Yamuna has also raised concerns over damage to property, contamination of drinking water, and the spread of waterborne diseases.
Officials have urged citizens to avoid traveling in flood-prone zones and assured that continuous monitoring is underway. The Delhi government has stated that additional pumps and equipment have been deployed to tackle the waterlogging, while coordination with neighboring states is being strengthened to manage inflow from upstream.
Experts have warned that if rains persist, the flood situation could worsen, making it one of the most severe water crises in the city in recent years.
