Ananya Lohia , Delhi - Microsoft's massive restructuring of its Xbox gaming division has left the gaming industry shaken, with around 3,200 employees set to lose their jobs. As the layoffs unfold, emotional messages from affected workers have gone viral, highlighting the human impact behind one of Xbox's biggest restructurings.
One former Xbox employee shared an emotional LinkedIn post saying he would be "okay" but was deeply worried about colleagues who had spent more than a decade with the company. He urged those affected to take time to recover, reconnect with loved ones and focus on their well-being before beginning their job search.
In an internal email to employees, Xbox leadership described the move as the most significant restructuring in the division's history. The company cited slowing growth, declining player engagement, rising costs and the ongoing hardware slowdown as key reasons behind the decision. As part of the overhaul, several studios will either become independent or move under new ownership, while Xbox also plans to reduce management layers and streamline operations.
Despite the large-scale job cuts, Microsoft said no publicly announced first-party games have been cancelled. The company maintains that the restructuring is aimed at rebuilding Xbox for long-term growth, with a renewed focus on efficiency, innovation and the future of the gaming business.
