Washington, August 18 — The United States is closely watching developments between India and Pakistan, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating that the situation is reviewed “every single day.”
Speaking in an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, Rubio stressed that ceasefires are difficult to sustain and require constant attention. “Ceasefires can fall apart very quickly… every single day, we are keeping an eye on what is happening between Pakistan and India,” he said.
Rubio underlined that Washington does not consider temporary pauses in hostilities as long-term solutions. Instead, the focus, he said, should be on achieving a lasting settlement rather than short-term relief from violence.
His comments came amid ongoing global discussions about regional stability in South Asia. Tensions between India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed neighbors, have historically drawn international concern due to the potential risk of escalation.
The remarks also echo past statements from U.S. officials, including former President Donald Trump, who had previously claimed credit for helping to reduce tensions between the two countries. However, India has consistently maintained that its military and foreign policy decisions remain independent, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar dismissing suggestions of external influence on ceasefire decisions.
Rubio’s statement highlights Washington’s continued diplomatic engagement in monitoring South Asia, reinforcing that the U.S. remains attentive to developments in the region given its strategic significance.
