Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - France and Spain are facing another dangerous stretch as firefighters work to contain fast-moving wildfires that have forced more than 325,000 people from their homes. The fires are being driven by extreme heat, strong winds and dry conditions, and officials warn the situation could worsen before it improves.
In France, flames have moved toward the outskirts of Bordeaux and the southwest, while evacuations have continued across the Gironde and Landes regions. In Spain, major blazes near Madrid, Ávila and other areas have also forced mass evacuations, with authorities using emergency and military units to help contain the fires. The scale of the disaster is severe in both countries, with hundreds of thousands displaced and vast areas of countryside burned. Firefighters are still struggling to stop the spread because the weather remains unstable, and fresh heat could fuel new flare-ups.
For now, the priority is evacuation, containment and protecting towns in the fires’ path. With conditions still dangerous, officials say the next few hours and days could be critical.
