Television actor Ashish Kapoor has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody following serious charges of sexual assault. Accused of gang rape, Kapoor was arrested in Pune before being produced in Delhi, where the Tis Hazari court ordered the custody period to allow for further investigation.
A complaint filed by a woman alleges that the assault took place in a washroom at a house party in Delhi’s Civil Lines in August. The woman claims she was raped, recorded, and physically assaulted; she also reported that her phone was snatched during the incident. Initial investigations included names of others, but she later revised her statement to implicate only Kapoor.
During the proceedings, Kapoor underwent a medical potency test at AIIMS, Delhi — a step police continue to consider crucial evidence. Authorities are still attempting to recover the victim’s mobile device, which remains missing despite searches at multiple locations.
Kapoor had reportedly evaded authorities for three weeks before being tracked down to Pune. The initiation of both custodial remand and medical examination signals a thorough legal process underway. The case has attracted widespread attention due to Kapoor’s prominence in popular TV shows.
