Former US President Donald Trump has called on European leaders to stop buying oil from Russia, escalating his criticism of the West’s trade and energy ties with Moscow. His remarks come shortly after he announced steep tariffs of up to 50% on Indian imports, citing the need to protect American industries.

Trump argued that Europe’s continued reliance on Russian energy undermines Western sanctions and prolongs the conflict in Ukraine. “You cannot keep funding the very state you are trying to counter,” he reportedly told European counterparts. He suggested that alternative sources, including US energy exports, should replace Russian supplies.

The appeal follows his administration’s broader strategy of reshaping global trade patterns through tariffs and pressure campaigns.
