Desk Correspondent , Delhi - The national security agencies have put the entire Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana states on the highest alert possible after receiving intelligence warnings about a great terror threat ahead of the January 26, 2026, Republic Day celebrations. The reports indicate a “hybrid threat” that is pretty much alarming since it involves Punjab-based gangsters, who are supposedly working for foreign-based Khalistani handlers and, at the same time, receiving help from radical elements in Bangladesh. The local criminal networks are said to be utilized by the terrorists to get around traditional surveillance and to set up a logistics chain for "spectacular strikes" to be performed at the high-profile installations and in the densely populated urban areas of North India.

With the increase in the threat level, the North District Police and specialized anti-terror units have started conducting mock drills at vulnerable places like the Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Chandni Chowk. Security experts talk about the situation as an "unholy nexus" where modern weaponry and funds are being brought in through the borders that are not well guarded, to support the sleeper cells. Besides, there is surveillance at all transit points, and insidious infiltrations of organized crime are being unmasked by the Delhi Police in a huge offensive, with the intention of destroying the local support structure that the extremist groups count on to carry out their plans.

The high alert status is also related to the regional tensions, with the intelligence agencies keeping a close watch on the movement of "hybrid terrorists" who blend perfectly with the civilians. The public has been warned to pay extra attention to the metro stations and transport hubs, as the law enforcement agencies are working on a coordinated multi-state security lockdown. The Home Ministry has prescribed "zero-tolerance" with the Republic Day parade drawing nearer.
