Supreme Court Revises Stand on NCERT Judiciary Chapter, Leaves Decision to Governments and Universities

Shivani Jaiswal, New Delhi-

The Supreme Court of India on Friday revised its earlier position in the controversy surrounding the NCERT judiciary chapter and stated that the Centre, state governments, and universities would be free to take their own decisions regarding the matter.

The issue had earlier gained attention after objections were raised over a section in the chapter that was described as controversial by several groups. During previous proceedings, the court had reportedly directed the removal of three educators associated with drafting the content. However, in today’s hearing, the bench clarified that academic institutions and governments should independently decide how such educational content is handled.

The court observed that matters related to curriculum, academic interpretation, and educational policy often involve broader institutional judgment and should not always require judicial intervention. The latest observation is being viewed as a significant shift from the court’s earlier strict stance in the case.

Legal experts believe the decision could provide greater autonomy to educational bodies while also reopening debate over the balance between academic freedom and public accountability in school textbooks.

The development has triggered fresh political and academic reactions, with some groups welcoming the move as support for institutional independence, while others continue to demand stricter oversight of educational material. ‎<This message was edited> Unique Protest in Mathura: Youth Dressed as ‘Cockroach’ Raises Voice Against Yamuna Pollution

Shivani Jaiswal,Mathura-

A unique protest over the growing pollution in the Yamuna River drew attention in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, after a young man arrived at the Municipal Corporation office dressed as a cockroach.

The protester claimed that the condition of the Yamuna had become so poor that “cockroaches and filth” seemed more visible than clean water. Calling himself a member of the “Cockroach Janata Party,” he accused civic authorities of ignoring the worsening pollution and failing to maintain proper cleanliness around the river.

The unusual demonstration quickly attracted public attention outside the municipal office, with several bystanders recording videos and sharing them on social media. The protest soon became a talking point across the city.

The youth demanded immediate action to clean the Yamuna River and urged authorities to take strict measures against those responsible for dumping waste and polluted water into the river.

Local residents also expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the Yamuna and said the protest, though unconventional, successfully highlighted a serious environmental issue affecting Mathura. Patriot’ OTT Premiere Confirmed, Spy Thriller Set for Digital Release
