The Supreme Court has stayed the investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) against Congress MLA Arif Masood in connection with an alleged fake documents case. The order was passed after Masood approached the apex court challenging the probe.
Masood argued that the case was politically motivated and that the investigation lacked merit. His counsel contended that continuing the probe would cause unnecessary harassment and damage to his public image.
The bench, while granting interim relief, directed that no coercive action be taken against the legislator until further orders. The court has also sought responses from the concerned authorities on the matter.
The case against Masood stems from allegations of using forged documents in official records, though the MLA has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The next hearing will determine whether the stay is to be extended or vacated.
