India is set to bolster its aerial defence with the induction of the Sudarshan Chakra system, designed to counter advanced aerial threats, including drones, aircraft, and precision-guided missiles. Defence officials highlighted that the indigenous platform will act as a multi-layer shield, improving the country’s preparedness against evolving security challenges.
Developed under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, the system integrates long-range radars, rapid-response missile batteries, and command-control units. Its main objective is to detect and neutralise incoming threats in real time, ensuring round-the-clock protection of strategic locations, including border areas and key military assets.
According to defence experts, Sudarshan Chakra can track multiple targets simultaneously and launch quick interceptions, giving India a technological edge in modern warfare. The system is expected to work in tandem with existing air defence platforms such as the S-400, creating a layered security mechanism.
The government has described the induction of Sudarshan Chakra as a milestone for self-reliance in defence. Officials added that the move not only strengthens India’s strategic posture but also reduces dependency on foreign defence imports.
The system is scheduled to be deployed in phases, with priority given to sensitive border regions.
