Kyiv — Ukraine reported one of the heaviest overnight assaults by Russia, with 805 drones and 13 missiles launched across multiple regions. The Ukrainian military confirmed that air defense units destroyed the majority of incoming threats, but some struck energy facilities and residential areas, causing blackouts and structural damage.
Officials said rescue teams were deployed to affected zones, and preliminary reports indicated several injuries. Authorities have not yet released an official death toll. The attacks targeted central and southern Ukraine, where infrastructure remains highly vulnerable.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his appeal to Western allies for additional air defense systems, stressing that repeated drone and missile strikes are depleting the country’s resources. Analysts noted that Russia is increasingly using drone swarms to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses and escalate pressure on critical infrastructure.
Russia described the operation as retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on border regions, further underscoring the cycle of attacks and counterattacks.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to the development, calling the strikes a “waste of humanity.” He argued that the conflict is destroying lives on both sides and urged fresh diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. His remarks come at a time when global concern over the prolonged war remains high.
The latest assault highlights the continuing intensity of the conflict, with no indication of a breakthrough in negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
