Tyler Robinson aged 22, of Washington County, Utah, has been arrested and accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Robinson is currently held without bail on charges including aggravated murder, firing a weapon, and obstruction of justice.
Authorities tracked Robinson down after a 33-hour manhunt. His father suspected him after seeing police photos of the suspected shooter. When confronted, Robinson reportedly told a law enforcement source he would "rather kill myself than turn myself in" before being apprehended. A family friend, alerted by Robinson’s hint of involvement, also contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, leading to his arrest. He is not speaking to investigators.
Raised Mormon in Washington, Utah, neighbours described his family as "good" and were stunned by the events. Robinson had no prior criminal record and briefly attended Utah State University before enrolling in an electrical apprenticeship. While a precise motive is still being investigated, Robinson had recently become more political, expressing strong dislike for Kirk at a family dinner, calling him "full of hate". Formal charges are expected Tuesday, coinciding with his first court appearance.
