On October 4, 2025, Mumbai's churches hosted the annual 'Blessing of the Animals' ceremony, honouring St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. At the Church of Our Lady of Health in Kalbadevi, numerous pet owners brought their beloved animals to receive blessings from Father Joseph D’Souza. Among them was Goa, the cherished pet dog of the late industrialist Ratan Tata. Goa, a black-and-white dog, was accompanied by Vanessa D’Souza, a resident of Fort, and was blessed with holy water and a short prayer, along with other pets.
Goa was part of a group of stray dogs that found a home at Bombay House, the headquarters of the Tata Group in Mumbai. He was known to be Ratan Tata’s favourite and shared a special bond with him. During an interview years ago, Karishma Mehta, founder of 'Humans of Bombay', observed Goa sitting comfortably next to Tata as he carried out his meetings and official work. Goa was also present at Tata's funeral in October 2024, paying his last respects to the man who had rescued him.
