Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, requesting his party’s support for the National Democratic Alliance’s vice-presidential candidate C P Radhakrishnan.
According to sources, Singh made the call as part of the NDA’s outreach efforts to ensure wider political backing for Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu. The alliance is keen on consolidating support from regional parties, particularly in the southern states, to strengthen its numbers ahead of the vice-presidential election.
C P Radhakrishnan, known for his long political career and work within Tamil Nadu, is being projected as a candidate who represents both experience and regional balance. The BJP hopes that his candidature will resonate beyond the party’s traditional support base.
While the DMK-led front is yet to announce its official stance, Singh’s direct engagement with Stalin underlines the importance the NDA is placing on securing broader consensus. Political observers suggest that the outreach reflects the BJP’s strategy of bridging gaps with regional powers at a crucial juncture.
The election for the vice president is expected to witness close attention, with alliances and cross-party negotiations playing a key role in the outcome.
