New Delhi - On the eve of India's 79th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu delivered a powerful address, highlighting "Operation Sindoor" as a historic example in the fight against terrorism. Terming the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 innocent citizens, as "cowardly and utterly inhuman", President Murmu affirmed India's "decisive" and "steely resolve" in its response.
Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor involved precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, neutralising over 100 terrorists. While Pakistan retaliated with missile and drone attacks, India successfully defended and struck back at Pakistani air bases. The President stressed that the operation "showed that our armed forces are prepared to meet any eventuality when it comes to guarding the nation".
President Murmu also lauded the operation as a "test case of the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in the defence sector", demonstrating India's growing indigenous capabilities, including Akash and BrahMos missiles. She underscored India's stance that it will not be an aggressor but will "not hesitate to retaliate in defence of our citizens," a policy noted by the global community. The unity displayed post-Pahalgam was hailed as "the most befitting response to those who wanted to divide us".
The President also touched upon India's remarkable economic progress, digital advancements, and commitment to social welfare, envisioning a developed India by 2047.
