New Delhi, Aug 15 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a new personal record on Thursday by delivering a 103-minute address from the Red Fort, marking his longest Independence Day speech to date.
The nearly hour-and-three-quarter-long address covered a wide range of topics, including economic reforms, infrastructure development, technology adoption, and social welfare initiatives. Modi also spoke about his vision for Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, reiterating commitments towards self-reliance, job creation, and support for small businesses.
This year’s speech not only marked his 12th consecutive Independence Day address — surpassing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s record — but also became the longest by duration in his tenure. Political analysts note that the extended address reflected both the breadth of the government’s agenda and the Prime Minister’s effort to outline a comprehensive roadmap for the coming years.
The occasion also featured announcements on tax reforms, including significant cuts in GST for essential items, aimed at reducing the cost of living and benefiting small enterprises.
