North India has been battered by heavy rainfall, with Gurugram and Delhi-NCR particularly affected, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue alerts and order school closures in Haryana and Chandigarh.

Gurugram is grappling with severe waterlogging that has paralysed traffic and disrupted daily life. Over 100mm of rain caused six-hour traffic snarls on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, with the Aravali dam sustaining damage and cracks appearing in nearby homes. Experts attribute the crisis to poor urban planning, unchecked construction over natural drainage systems, and a fragmented civic governance model. 

In Delhi, the Yamuna River has swollen, crossing the evacuation mark and leading to the opening of Hathnikund barrage floodgates, with floodwaters entering residential areas.
