Amid ongoing unrest in Nepal, a new demand has emerged from the country’s Gen-Z protesters who are calling for 73-year-old former chief justice Sushila Karki to be appointed as interim prime minister.
According to reports, the protesters, largely driven by young voices frustrated with corruption and political instability, believe that Karki’s reputation for integrity and independence makes her a suitable candidate to guide the country through its current crisis. Karki, Nepal’s first woman chief justice, is remembered for her bold stance against political interference during her tenure in the judiciary.
The demand comes at a time when Nepal is facing widespread demonstrations, with youth-led groups challenging the traditional political order. Many say the current leadership has failed to address unemployment, governance issues, and growing public anger, pushing young citizens to seek a fresh alternative.
While Karki herself has not made any statement on the matter, her name has gained momentum on social media and in protest gatherings. Analysts note that the call reflects a larger generational shift in Nepalese politics, where young people are now openly advocating for non-traditional figures to take charge.
The political establishment has yet to respond formally, but the idea of a non-political interim leader marks a striking turn in Nepal’s unfolding crisis.
