Following Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's resignation on Tuesday, cited as an effort to find a "constitutional political solution", Nepal plunged into further widespread violence. Oli’s departure, accepted by President Ram Chandra Paudel, failed to quell the "Gen Z" protests, which escalated dramatically across the nation.
The Parliament building was set ablaze, alongside parts of the Singha Durbar government complex and the Supreme Court. Protesters also torched the Nepali Congress party’s central office in Lalitpur .Tragically, former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s wife, Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, died after their house was set alight. Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel was reportedly chased, beaten, and stripped by protesters. The unrest has tragically resulted in at least 19 fatalities and over 400 injuries, prompting appeals for restraint and dialogue from the Nepali Army, security chiefs, and President Paudel.
