Nagaland's Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along, has condemned a derogatory comment made by a Naga student about the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg at Kaziranga University in Assam's Jorhat district. The incident occurred during a heated argument between the student and another individual, where the student used foul language to refer to Zubeen Garg.
In response, Minister Along expressed deep regret over the incident, stating that such statements, whether made in anger or jest, are completely inappropriate and insensitive. He emphasized that Zubeen Garg was a pride not only of Assam but of the entire Northeast and India. The minister also assured the public that all Naga students at Kaziranga University are safe, and no further untoward incidents have occurred.
Minister Along further urged students to refrain from making emotional outbursts on social media during this sensitive period of mourning. He expressed gratitude towards Assam's ministers and police officials for their swift intervention in ensuring the safety of the students.
The incident has sparked discussions about the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect, especially in academic environments where students from diverse backgrounds interact. It also highlights the need for fostering understanding and tolerance among students from different region.
