Commuters and vehicle owners in Mumbai have been hit by another fuel price increase as the cost of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has been raised by ₹2 per kilogram. Following the revision, CNG is now priced at ₹86 per kg in the city.
The hike is expected to affect thousands of auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, commercial vehicle owners, and private motorists who depend on CNG for their daily transportation needs. Increased fuel costs may also lead to higher operating expenses for public transport services.
Gas distribution companies cited rising procurement and operational costs as the primary reasons behind the latest price revision. Despite the increase, industry officials maintain that CNG remains a more economical and environmentally friendly alternative compared to petrol and diesel.
Transport sector representatives have expressed concern over the impact of rising fuel prices on drivers' earnings and overall transportation costs. Some industry groups have indicated that continued increases could result in demands for fare revisions in the future.
Experts note that fuel price fluctuations have a direct impact on household budgets and transportation expenses. As Mumbai has one of the largest CNG vehicle networks in the country, any change in CNG rates is closely watched by consumers and businesses alike.
The revised prices have come into effect immediately. Authorities have not indicated whether further changes in CNG rates are expected in the coming weeks, but consumers are advised to stay updated through official announcements.
The latest increase adds to concerns over rising living costs while highlighting the continuing importance of affordable fuel options for urban transportation.
