Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - India’s Ministry of External Affairs said 10 Indians were rescued and one remains missing after a commercial vessel came under attack off Oman. The ministry called the continuing attacks on commercial shipping in the region “deeply worrisome”.

According to the MEA, Indian missions are coordinating with Omani authorities in the ongoing search-and-rescue operation. The ministry also said it is monitoring the condition of the rescued crew and working to account for the missing Indian sailor. Earlier incidents in the same waters have already put Indian seafarers at risk, making this one more alarming for New Delhi.

The attack comes amid a wider deterioration in maritime security around the Strait of Hormuz and nearby waters. Indian officials have repeatedly warned that targeting commercial vessels and civilian mariners threatens freedom of navigation and global trade. The MEA’s reaction reflects growing concern that these incidents could keep spreading across the region.

With one Indian still missing, the immediate priority is the search-and-rescue effort and coordination with Omani authorities. But the broader message from New Delhi is clear: attacks on merchant shipping are becoming a serious and persistent regional threat.L
