Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Survivors of the Vietnam boat tragedy have described scenes of panic after a speedboat capsized near Phu Quoc Island, killing 15 Indian tourists. Officials said the vessel carried 36 people in total 32 Indian tourists and four local crew members and 21 people were rescued.

According to reports, the boat overturned about 400 meters off Hon May Rut Ngoai while traveling from Hon May Rut Island to An Thoi Port. Survivors said the accident unfolded suddenly, with rough seas and large waves making it difficult to stay afloat. One account described the shock of the moment as people were enjoying the trip and taking photographs before the vessel flipped.

Local authorities and rescuers responded quickly, but the disaster still left 15 dead and several others traumatized. The Indian mission said it had set up control rooms to assist families and coordinate with Vietnamese authorities as the search-and-rescue effort continued. Reports also said the surviving passengers were taken to safety while officials worked to confirm identities and contact relatives.

The accident off Phu Quoc has become one of the deadliest overseas incidents involving Indian tourists in recent years. As rescue teams and diplomats continue their work, survivors’ accounts are filling in the horrifying final moments of what began as a sightseeing trip.
