On Monday, September 1, 2025, a 39-year-old man was arrested after his white Toyota SUV crashed into the Russian consulate in Sydney's Woollahra suburb. The incident occurred around 8 am local time on Fullerton Street.
Police were initially alerted to an unauthorized vehicle in the driveway. When officers attempted to speak with the driver, he allegedly accelerated the vehicle through the consulate's steel gates and onto the lawn, coming to a stop next to a Russian flagpole. Television footage showed the car with a smashed window. Witnesses reported police using batons to smash the car window to extract the driver.
During the operation, a 24-year-old constable sustained an injury to his hand. The driver was taken into custody and transferred to Surry Hills Police Station. Bomb squad personnel and sniffer dogs were dispatched as a precaution, though authorities quickly announced there was no ongoing danger.
