Desk Correspondent , Lucknow - A massive fire tore through a slum cluster in Lucknow’s Vikas Nagar area, gutting around 280 shanties and leaving more than 1,000 people homeless. The blaze spread rapidly through the tightly packed settlement on Wednesday evening, with officials saying more than 50 LPG cylinders exploded one after another, intensifying the inferno.
According to reports, the fire broke out around 5:30 pm and quickly engulfed the makeshift homes, many of which were occupied by migrant workers and their families. Firefighters, police, NDRF and SDRF teams rushed to the scene and battled the flames for hours before bringing the situation under control. Preliminary findings suggest the blaze may have started after a short circuit came into contact with a cooking gas cylinder, though the exact cause is still under investigation. While no deaths were officially reported in the immediate aftermath, authorities said the families lost homes, belongings, and basic essentials in the fire.
The Lucknow blaze has left hundreds of families in deep distress and once again exposed the vulnerability of densely packed informal settlements. Relief and shelter efforts are underway, but for many residents, rebuilding life after such a devastating loss will take time.
