Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - Oil marketing majors Indane, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas have issued a fresh advisory for domestic LPG consumers following a surge in digital delivery scams. The companies warned users against sharing their Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) or OTP over the phone or WhatsApp with individuals claiming to be agency officials. Fraudsters are reportedly using these codes to gain unauthorized access to consumers' digital profiles and linked bank accounts, leading to significant financial losses.
The scam typically involves fraudulent messages that mimic official delivery alerts, followed by a phone call claiming the cylinder delivery will be canceled unless a "verification code" is provided. Authorities clarified that the 4-digit or 6-digit DAC is strictly for doorstep verification and should only be shared with delivery personnel when they are physically present with the cylinder. Official communications are sent only through verified sender IDs, such as "VM-HPGAS," "VK-INDANE," or "AD-BPCL."
To ensure security, consumers are urged to ignore requests for advance OTPs and avoid clicking on suspicious third-party links. Gas agencies have reiterated that no employee is authorized to collect authentication codes via phone calls. For safer transactions, customers are encouraged to use official platforms like Indian-Oil One, Hello BPCL, or the HP Pay app, ensuring end-to-end security while managing their refills.
