News Desk : The family of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari has intensified its demand for justice following his death in a controversial police encounter in Bihar's Bhojpur district. His brother, Chandan Tiwari, has actively appealed for public support to ensure a fair and transparent investigation, urging authorities to maintain complete accountability. Simultaneously, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the incident.
The incident has triggered major controversies due to the heavily conflicting accounts provided by the police and the victim's family. Family members and local villagers allege that the 28-year-old social activist was killed in cold blood after he had already agreed to surrender. Conversely, the Bhojpur police initially claimed that Tiwari, whom they described as mentally unsound, fired repeatedly at personnel, forcing retaliatory firing in self-defence. However, public distrust grew rapidly after the Superintendent of Police (SP) office issued contradictory justifications across two different press statements.
This case formally names the then Jagdishpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), the then Shahpur Station House Officer (SHO), and other involved officers. To garner wider national attention, brother Chandan Tiwari took his appeals for support directly to Delhi after completing the last rites. Massive local solidarity has since emerged, highlighted by a large public mahapanchayat organized in his native Bilauti village.

Backed by growing public sentiment, Chandan Tiwari and his mother continue to demand the death penalty or life imprisonment for the responsible officers, alongside official martyr status for Bharat.
