Former United States National Security Advisor John Bolton has openly criticised his former boss, Donald Trump, over remarks related to India and Pakistan. Recently, Trump suggested that his administration had played a significant role in reducing tensions between the two neighbours. Bolton, however, strongly disagreed and described such claims as misleading.
Bolton, who worked in the Trump White House before resigning in 2019, said that no real breakthrough on peace between India and Pakistan had been achieved during that time. He argued that both nations continue to face long-standing disputes, especially over Kashmir, and that it would be wrong to credit the Trump presidency with progress that never happened.
Apart from this, Bolton also questioned Trump’s trade and economic policies. He called the former President’s frequent use of tariffs against other countries “inappropriate and damaging”, stressing that the strategy ended up hurting American industries and consumers rather than achieving long-term benefits.
Bolton’s remarks are significant because Trump has been using his foreign policy record as a key talking point while preparing for another political run. By pointing out flaws and exaggerations in Trump’s statements, Bolton has highlighted divisions between the former president and some of his senior advisers.
According to Bolton, genuine peace between India and Pakistan will require consistent diplomatic engagement, not short-term claims. His comments underline the fact that the relationship between the two South Asian nations remains fragile and unresolved, despite outside involvement
