IRCTC Flags 9 Crore Accounts, Expands AI Surveillance Across Railway Services
Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has intensified its digital oversight measures by flagging around 9 crore user accounts and expanding artificial intelligence-based monitoring across railway catering services. The move is aimed at curbing fraudulent ticket bookings, improving food quality, and enhancing transparency in railway operations.
According to railway officials, the large-scale account verification exercise was launched to identify inactive, duplicate, and suspicious accounts that could be misused by unauthorized agents and automated booking systems. By cleaning up its user database, IRCTC aims to ensure fairer access to ticket bookings for genuine passengers and reduce the influence of touts who often exploit high-demand routes.
In addition to ticketing reforms, Indian Railways is also deploying AI-powered surveillance and monitoring systems across railway kitchens and catering units. The technology will help track food preparation processes, hygiene standards, inventory management, and service quality in real time. Officials say the initiative is part of a broader modernization drive designed to improve passenger experience and strengthen accountability within railway catering operations.
The twin initiatives reflect Indian Railways’ growing reliance on technology to improve efficiency, transparency, and customer service. With AI playing an increasingly important role in ticketing and catering operations, authorities hope to deliver a safer, fairer, and more reliable experience for millions of passengers across the country.
