India has welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s choice of Sergio Gor as the next ambassador to New Delhi, describing the move as a clear indication of the importance Washington attaches to its relationship with India. Gor, a longtime associate of Trump, has also been tasked with the role of special envoy for South and Central Asia.

An Indian diplomatic source noted that Gor’s proximity to the U.S. president could help establish a more direct channel for India to convey its concerns on key issues such as trade, regional security, and strategic cooperation. The envoy added that the nomination reflects Washington’s willingness to strengthen ties with New Delhi at a crucial time.
