India and the United States have signed a major agreement on critical minerals cooperation aimed at reducing dependence on China for key raw materials used in advanced technologies and clean energy industries. The pact focuses on strengthening supply chains for minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earth elements, which are essential for electric vehicles, semiconductors, batteries, and defense equipment.
Officials from both countries said the agreement will encourage joint exploration, processing, research, and investment in the critical minerals sector. The move comes amid growing concerns over China’s restrictions on the export of several strategic minerals and materials that are crucial for global manufacturing industries.
The partnership is expected to boost economic and strategic ties between New Delhi and Washington while supporting India’s plans to expand domestic manufacturing and renewable energy production. Experts believe the deal will also help create alternative global supply chains and reduce market disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions.
Both countries emphasized that the agreement reflects their shared commitment to secure and resilient trade networks in emerging technologies and clean energy sectors.
