Shivani Jaiswal , New Delhi- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several parts of the country, warning of extreme temperature conditions over the next five days. According to the forecast, maximum temperatures in some northern and central states may soar up to 47°C, increasing health risks for people, especially those exposed to outdoor conditions.
The IMD stated that dry winds, clear skies, and intense solar radiation are likely to push daytime temperatures significantly above normal levels. States including Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh are expected to be the worst affected during this period.
Officials have advised citizens to take precautionary measures such as avoiding direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and limiting strenuous outdoor activities. Vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions have been urged to remain extra cautious.
Health departments in several states have also been alerted to prepare for possible heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Hospitals and emergency services are being asked to stay on standby as temperatures continue to rise.
Meteorologists have indicated that the heatwave conditions are expected to persist until a slight change in wind patterns brings temporary relief. However, no significant drop in temperature is likely in the immediate days ahead.
The IMD has reiterated that such intense heat conditions are becoming more frequent and severe, highlighting the growing impact of changing climate patterns across the region.
