Desk Correspondent , Mumbai - Priyanka Chopra, one of the most admired actresses of Bollywood, revealed how she never wanted to leave Bollywood but was 'pushed' to do so. Today, she is India's most successful global star, expressing how she feels forced to seek work in Hollywood at a time when her own film offers were drying up. Her remarks in the documentary The Bluff sparked a new debate about the pressures of global fame and the difficulties experienced by Indian actresses.
The former Miss World (2000), who was one of the leading actresses during the 20s, rose from her performances in Krrish, Fashion and not to forget, Barfi!. Despite her stardom and popularity in Bollywood, she mentioned her struggle to find substantial roles after 2016, making her consider opportunities overseas. “I didn’t want to leave Bollywood,” she said. “I was pushed to go to Hollywood because I wasn’t being offered good work here.” The shocking confession of an actress who is often celebrated as a global success in the entertainment industry.
She stepped into Hollywood with her first hit TV series, Quantico (2015-2018), where she was the first South Asian woman to dominate the American drama. Following this, she played several other roles in global films like Baywatch and The Matrix Resurrections and projects like The White Tiger, earning worldwide recognition.
According to sources, Priyanka's entry to Hollywood was not just out of ambition but out of desperation. She wanted to evolve and improve as an actress, as Bollywood's "item numbers and glamorous roles” limited her scope. Several actors in India voiced against the same factor, showing the lack of versatile roles for women after theyreach a certain age.
Priyanka's story highlights a very valid point on how Indian talent no longer perceives Hollywood as an unreachable dream but a reality to achieve. Despite her international success, Priyanka has made occasional Bollywood returns—including Love Again (Hindi version) and upcoming Indian projects—signalling that she still embraces her roots.
Her journey also shows how loving your job needs constant improvement, which will gradually evolve you towards betterment. The scope might not be present just in front, but you have to be consistent to find the path and navigate your journey through that.
Her insights not only revealed several pieces of information regarding Bollywood but also inspired many artists who hold a dream of having a global reach. Priyanka's career is a testament that success is not always faite but often the chances you take, the challenges you decide to face, and the NOs you refuse to listen to.
