Desk Correspondent , New Delhi – A new development has occurred regarding this summer’s climate. As we are aware of the gradual increase of temperature have been causing heatwaves for the past few years. According to a new study scholars has urged Indian cities to upgrade Heat Action Plans because most current policies are mainly focused on daytime heatwaves and has no preparedness plan for nighttime heatwave.
Led by co-author Kashfir Imdad of Kanpur’s Pandit Prithi Nath PG College along with other researchers did a study on Heatwave. The study is titled ‘Night-time and compound heatwaves as emerging climate risks in India’s smart cities.” The analysis of this research is concerning, heat risk in Indian cities will not just be high during the day but also during night. This development is very much concerning because high temperature during night makes it difficult for the body to cool down after the intense day time heat. This can lead to many health scarcities like heat stroke, diabetes, and hypertension.
Most state and district plans, including Uttar Pradesh's, focus almost entirely on daytime heatwaves and lack measures for night-time cooling. Experts recommend special customizations to houses such as cool roofs (removable in variable climates like Lucknow), urban greenery, ventilation corridors, hot night warnings, night-time cooling shelters, and reliable electricity for fans or AC. "We have not identified night-time and compound heatwaves as a problem yet," said Imdad, stressing the need for region-specific policies to reduce cumulative heat exposure.
