Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a significant investment of $15 billion over the next five years to establish a gigawatt-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This facility will be Google's largest AI hub outside the United States. The announcement was made during the 'Bharat AI Shakti' event in New Delhi.
The Visakhapatnam AI hub aims to accelerate AI innovation and support India's growing digital economy. It will feature a new international subsea gateway, large-scale energy infrastructure, and gigawatt-scale compute capacity. Pichai emphasized that this hub will integrate Google's industry-leading technology to benefit enterprises and users across India.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, highlighted that the hub will be connected to Google's global network, serving as a digital backbone for India. The facility will also act as a landing station for subsea cables, enhancing connectivity across the country.
