Desk Correspondent , Panaji - The Goa government has started a major effort to shut down illegal nightclubs following the terrible fire that killed 25 people at the Birch by Romeo Lane club. With the Christmas and New Year holiday rush coming soon, the state is now very focused on checking that all clubs follow strict safety and licensing rules. This move is meant to make sure such a deadly event never happens again during the busiest tourist season of the year.
Teams made up of police, fire services, and government officers are now inspecting all nightclubs in the North Goa area. The teams have the power to close any club right away if they find any rules are being broken. So far, two very popular clubs in Vagator, Goya Club and Cafe CO2 Goa, have already been sealed. One club was built on farming land, and the other did not have the necessary fire safety certificate, showing serious problems.

In a separate move, another club's fire safety approval was taken away after a sudden check found its safety arrangements were not good enough. This crackdown comes as the police continue to investigate the fire, saying the club owners had used fake papers to get permission. The government is making it clear that the "party is over" for clubs that do not care about the safety of their customers.
