The death toll in Gaza has risen past 66,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, as the war between Israel and Hamas continues unabated and the humanitarian crisis intensifies. Over 79 people were confirmed dead in the past 24 hours alone. The ministry also reported 168,162 injured since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023.
Although the Gaza Health Ministry is affiliated with Hamas, its figures are considered credible by the United Nations and humanitarian experts. The ministry states that about half of those killed are women and children, underscoring the toll on civilians.
Israel’s military operations have demolished large parts of Gaza, forcing nearly 90% of the population to flee their homes and pushing Gaza City into a famine-level humanitarian emergency. Despite global demands for a ceasefire, Israel has shown little sign of altering its approach.
