Desk Correspondent , Raipur - The once-impenetrable Abujhmad forest, spanning 5,000 sq km across Narayan, Bijapur, and Dantewada districts, in undergoing unprecedented government mapping after decades of being a Maoist safe haven. Known as the "hills of unknown" in Gondi because of its dense and mostly uncharted forest this expanse of sal, teak, tendu jungle lacked roads and records, leaving indigenous Gond, Muria, Abujhmarihia, Madiya and Halda tribes isolated under insurgent control.

Security forces have decisively dismantled CPI(Maoist) presence through camps, operations, and surrenders, enabling, administrative access where Maoist armies once dominated as their central guerrilla base. Over 210 Naxals, including bombmakers Rupesh, laid down arms in 2025, while ITBP bases like Lanka sealed supply lines near Maharashtra, aligning with the goal to eradicate left-wing extremism by Mach 2026.

Narayanpur District Collector Namrata Jain recently rode a motorcycle through unmapped tracks to survey villages, stating effort are filling blank spaces in records as Maoist threats vanish."Abujhmadh and North Bastar are now Naxal-free," said Home Minister on last October.
